As mentioned in my post on the 11th September game Kanemoto has indeed announced his retirement from the game at the end of the season. In an emotional press conference he admitted that he the past three years had been difficult and that he could no longer continue playing at the top level. Whilst he did not go out at the top at least he was able to admit that he could no longer continue and choose the time of his departure.

'at the top' is just as valid a phrase as 'on top'

There are a lot of grammatical variations between British and American English. Let's keep the topic on baseball before this site turns into the drivel that gets published on Yahoo message boards.
