As predicted Wada will return for his second season. On being questioned about this Sakai-owner said that Wada was in the first year of a three year contract (so what?). The new head coach for Wada is going to be Masahiro Kuroda who has coached with Daiei (head coach and battery coach) and Hanshin (emerging battery) previously. We know about Mizutani as batting coach and Sekikawa moves from outfield defense base running where he was singularly inept to be a batting coach. Nakanishi (ni-gun pitching coach) was offered the job of pitching coach but declined and so 'owd Kubo' is back. This I can't believe. How anyone as incompetent at developing young talent as he was in his previous stint can be offered a top job with a team that has the avowed intent of developing young talent escapes me. Sakai-owner just finds new ways to show how out of his depth he actually is. What is notable about the new coaching lineup is the lack of winning records. These are old boys supreme and none of them have a new idea between them. Yabu as Tigers pitching coach I thought did quite a reasonable job with the starters - the batting and relief was the issue. Bringing in a new coach to work with the relief would have been the logical step and sacking Wada as well.
