Otake wins first of the year

Winning a game a season hasn’t been the plan for righty Kan Otake the past two years, but injuries have hampered him since he tied his career high with 10 victories in 2009.

It took until the second to the last game of this season, but Otake posted a victory with seven scoreless innings on Sunday in a 1-0 victory over the Hanshin Tigers at The Zoom.

Otake yielded five hits, walked none and fanned three to win his first game since June 12 last year. Akihiro Higashide’s fifth-inning RBI single was the only scoring as loser Kiyohara Daiki (0-1), a fourth-year righty making his pro debut. The righty surrendered a run on five hits over five innings, but got no support.

Hanshin’s Matt Murton had two hits but his average stayed at .313, three points behind Central League leader Hisayoshi Chono of the Yomiuri Giants. The Tigers and Carp play NPB’s final regular season game today.
