Uehara Seeks International Strike Zone

Discussion in the NPB News forum
Uehara Seeks International Strike Zone
Yomiuri Giants pitcher Koji Uehara came up with a suggestion to make the NPB strike zone a more international one. Uehara feels that if NPB is getting rid of the 2 stop motion for pitchers to try and become more "international," then he feels the strike zone should also come under the same scrutiny. "If we're going to adopt international standards, then what about the strike zone? International tournaments and MLB strike zones are a little wider on the outside corners. If we're not going to adopt the same standards for that (strike zone), then what's the purpose of internationalization?" Uehara stated. "I got a call from Hiroshima's Hiroki Kuroda yesterday. We are all (various pitchers on different teams) going to submit this. We're also thinking about submitting a request to the umpires and rules committee. I'm in favor of reexamining the rules towards internationalization, if they head in the right direction."

This is a site about Pro Yakyu (Japanese Baseball), not about who the next player to go over to MLB is. It's a community of Pro Yakyu fans who have come together to share their knowledge and opinions with the world. It's a place to follow teams and individuals playing baseball in Japan (and Asia), and to learn about Japanese (and Asian) culture through baseball.

It is my sincere hope that once you learn a bit about what we're about here that you will join the community of contributors.
