Sumitani - Double Homer Game

Sumitani - Double Homer Game
Wow Ginjiro!

2 HR, 4 RBI game, straight out of high school in just his fourth pro game! I was questioning why Sumitani was the Lions' starting catcher, but hey, if he can hit on top of catch, he'd be a lot better than recent catching options for Seibu. Could be a huge rookie. Will be interesting to see how he handles that staff and how he adjusts to opposing pitchers once scouting kicks in. [Japan Times Article]

It's actually 6 RBI. The first homer was a grand slam in the 2nd inning, and then a 2-run shot in the 7th.

He's being regarded as being very talented and, with the right training, he probably can become a very good player in the future.

With the current catchers on the Seibu roster (Hosokawa having the power but no defense, and Noda having the defense but can't swing a bat), if Sumitani can keep a decent batting average around .250, he very possibly can continue to start.

I'm looking forward to how he will perform in a long stretch.

Any of you guys familiar with the manga Dokaben? It seems like Sumitani is turning out to be the real life Yamada Taro.

I think I saw a stat that said the only other two high school rookies to hit two homers in a game in their first season were Kiyohara and Godzilla. That's some amazing company there.

By the way, he had 6 RBIs. His first pro homer was a grand slam, and his second was a two run shot.
