Miura - More than Great Pitching
[ Author: westbaystars | Posted: May 9, 2003 12:55 PM | YBS Fan ]

Miura did more than just pitch a great game, his first of the season. In the BayStars' half of the fourth inning, with bases loaded, two down, and two runs already in, Miura drilled a clean two run base hit through the gap on the right side of the infield to increase his lead to 5-1. That was enough even for Yokohama's bull pen as they won the game 7-3.

I'm sure that with better weather there would have been a better crowd than the reported 11,000 (although I doubt it was that many). His return marks the return of our starting ace. And the defeat of Hiroshima to make it two out of three for the card marks the second series win for Yokohama this season - this month for that matter.

Yokohama is now 5 and 2 for the month of May, #1 for the month. I'm afraid we gave the rest of the league too large a handicap in April, though.

It's great to see the BayStars doing better - above .300 now! Yes!
Bank of Yokohama
[ Author: torakichi | Posted: May 9, 2003 4:14 PM | HT Fan ]

The commentators on MBS Tigers Nighter went as far as to refer to the BayStars as the Yohohama Bank, because everyone was getting their chokin (literally "savings," in this case wins over the .500 mark) from them.

I always root for the underdog, so I'm hoping that Yokohama will be able to turn their fortunes around this season.

Except when they play Hanshin.

For a good laugh, go to BabelFish, type in NPB-BIS' address (http://www.npb-bis.com/jp/), select Japanese to English, and enjoy the "translation" (check out the individual stats, for instance).

Anyone know when, or if, NPB intends to restore its English pages?

No, but I should have something for you all this weekend. That's why my own writing has been minimal lately.
