It came down to seven games, and the home field advantage was what drove both teams to victory. Daiei won the first two in Fukuoka Dome, Hanshin took all three at Koshien, and Daiei has just finished sweeping back at Home Sweet Dome.

18:02: westbaystars: - According to Nikkan Sports, tonight's starters will be the same as Game 3: Wada vs. Moore.
18:03: westbaystars: - 6:00 - beep
18:03: Martin: - Hello there. Hope its going to be a nice game (not like yesterdays NY-F)
18:03: westbaystars: - 15 minutes to go to game time.
18:04: westbaystars: - If it's anything late five of the six (Game 2 was a bit of a blow out), it should be.
18:05: westbaystars: - The pitchers have just been confirmed as Wada vs. Moore.
18:05: Martin: - Is Moore a lefty? The Hawks had trouble against the Tigers lefties. I hope not tonight.
18:05: westbaystars: - I had forgotten last night that Saitoh threw Game 5 - since I missed that one.

18:06: Martin: - Thanks

18:07: westbaystars: - That's Hanshin's and Diaei's full 2003 rosters respectively.
18:11: westbaystars: - While we've still got a few minutes, you might be interested in the MVP standings.
18:11: westbaystars: - According to Nikkan Sports, Sugiuchi leads for Daiei with 8 points, Johjima and Zuleta share 6 points for second.
18:12: westbaystars: - For Hanshin, Kanemoto is on top with 9 points, Hiyama has 8, and Williams has 5 points.
18:12: westbaystars: - How they assign points is kind of vague, and it's just Nikkan Sports, not the people who actually decide the MVP.
18:15: Goemon: - Go Hanshin Tigers!!!!!!!!
18:16: westbaystars: - ---
18:16: westbaystars: - Top of First

18:20: Goemon: - Yeeeeaaaah
18:20: westbaystars: - Akahoshi bunt the ball back to the pitcher.
18:20: westbaystars: - Wada plays the ball on a hop.
18:20: westbaystars: - Looks at second.
18:20: westbaystars: - Throws to first.
18:20: westbaystars: - NOT in time!
18:21: westbaystars: - Akahoshi is safe!
18:21: jjr_in_SF: - go tigers
18:21: Goemon: - Runner in scoring position
18:21: westbaystars: - Runners at first and second, nobody out.

18:25: westbaystars: - Wada throws over to first to keep Akahoshi close.
18:25: westbaystars: - Wada's delivery isn't very fast. Hiyama fouls off the first pitch.
18:26: westbaystars: - A ball taken, and another throw to first.
18:27: westbaystars: - The next pitch is grounded to second.
18:27: westbaystars: - The toss to second for one.
18:27: westbaystars: - And the relay to first - double play.
18:27: westbaystars: - Hanshin threatened, but came up empty.
18:28: Goemon: - kusooo
18:28: westbaystars: - ---
18:28: westbaystars: - Bottom of First: HT 0 - 0 FDH
18:28: westbaystars: - ---
18:28: basebill: - Westbay-san, my feeble research has shown, at no time in history has the home team won each game in the Jap0an series
18:29: westbaystars: - That's pretty incredible.
18:29: niibu_yaa: - :_) Howdy Kids
18:29: jjr_in_SF: - hey niibu
18:29: westbaystars: - Moore takes the mound for Hanshin.
18:30: westbaystars: - Muramatsu, batting .278 this Series leads off.
18:30: basebill: - 1979 was close but the Swallows won the 7th game over the Buffs at Osaka
18:30: westbaystars: - Sigh of relief there at the end of the inning?
18:31: basebill: - no i want the tigers to win GO TIGERS
18:31: westbaystars: - Murmatsu hits a hiiiiigh bounder to third.
18:31: Martin: - Its time to change history. Go Hawks.
18:31: westbaystars: - And by the time the ball comes down, Sekimoto (at third this evening) has no play.
18:31: basebill: - COOL
18:31: westbaystars: - Lead-off runner on for Daiei as well.
18:31: niibu_yaa: - yeah a little but I trust wada just needed a little more warm up.
18:32: westbaystars: - The sigh was for niibu_yaa-san.
18:32: westbaystars: - So, you made your choice after rooting for seven?
18:32: niibu_yaa: -
18:32: basebill: - ha ha i still want the tigers to win!!
18:33: basebill: - yes
18:33: Goemon: - Hanshin!!!!
18:33: westbaystars: - Kawasaki, 2 for 3 last night, .333 in the Series, takes two straight pitches *not* looking bunt.
18:34: westbaystars: - He squares around on the third pitch, and takes it high.
18:34: westbaystars: - No strikes, three balls.
18:34: westbaystars: - Moore appears preoccupied with Muramatsu on first.
18:34: westbaystars: - Kawasaki squares and takes the next pitch for strike one.
18:35: westbaystars: - Home plate umpire says he didn't hold up on the next pitch. Full count.
18:35: westbaystars: - The shoubu pitch... after a throw to first.
18:35: Martin: - Steel ?
18:36: westbaystars: - Once again, the shoubu pitch - high and outside, ball four.
18:36: westbaystars: - Runners at first and second, nobody out.
18:36: jjr_in_SF: - crap!
18:36: westbaystars: - Muramatsu really wasn't that far from first. I don't think he was looking to steal.
18:37: westbaystars: - Iguchi comes up.
18:37: westbaystars: - Mr. RBI last night.
18:37: niibu_yaa: - Hope 井口 has his hero pants on again.
18:38: westbaystars: - And he takes three straight balls.
18:38: westbaystars: - Moore is all over the place.
18:38: westbaystars: - Next pitch is down the middle, taken for strike one.
18:39: westbaystars: - The fifth pitch his grounded to third, another high bounder.
18:39: westbaystars: - The throw to first, and he's called out.
18:39: westbaystars: - I thought he was safe, Iguchi thought he was safe, the the first base coach thought he was safe.
18:40: westbaystars: - And Oh comes out to protest that he thought he was safe. He even appears safe on the slow replay.
18:40: westbaystars: - Nonetheless, runners at second and third, one out.
18:41: westbaystars: - For Matsunaka to hit a 2-RBI double to the right-center gap (uchikan).
18:41: Goemon: - I think he was out.
18:41: westbaystars: - Daiei comes through where Hanshin failed in their half of the first.
18:41: westbaystars: - Hehehehehehe.
18:41: niibu_yaa: - Daiei didn't make enough mistakes to help Hanshin out the first Inning.
18:42: westbaystars: - Johjima, who dropped to .200 in the Series after an 0 for 3 performance last night, steps in.
18:43: westbaystars: - Johjima watches strike three go by on the inside corner.
18:44: basebill: - how long will hoshino-san stay with Moore
18:44: westbaystars: - Johjima doesn't agree with the call, but it looked close enough from this angle.
18:44: westbaystars: - Moore will probably settle down and not give up a hit for a few innings after this one.
18:44: Goemon: - Moore struggled in the beginning of game three as well.
18:44: Martin: - I hope not.
18:45: westbaystars: - Valdez, who hit his third home run of the Series last night, and batting .375 this Series, steps in.
18:45: basebill: - has been the pattern during the series
18:45: westbaystars: - And he strikes out to retire the side.
18:45: westbaystars: - But not before Matsunaka hits a two run timely uchukan hit to put Daiei on top.
18:46: westbaystars: - ---
18:46: westbaystars: - Top of Second: HT 0 - 2 FDH
18:46: westbaystars: - ---
18:46: niibu_yaa: - man I could use a UCC Black about right now.
18:46: westbaystars: - That what's on the radio?
18:47: basebill: - i need more coffee
18:47: westbaystars: - Arias breaks his bat on the first pitch, grounding out to Torigoe at short.
18:47: westbaystars: - One quick out.
18:47: niibu_yaa: - yup......persuasive advertising.
18:47: Martin: - A Red Bull ?
18:48: westbaystars: - Especially so early in the morning?
18:48: Martin: - Here in Holland its 10:44 in the morning.
18:48: basebill: - yes, i joined this party at 4:25 a m
18:49: basebill: - i'll have to leave for work at 6
18:49: westbaystars: - Hamanaka rips a line drive to the right side.
18:49: niibu_yaa: - alright....some defensive play.
18:49: westbaystars: - But it's stabbed by Iguchi at second on a leap.
18:49: westbaystars: - Nice grap for the second out.
18:49: Martin: - What hapened with Arias?
18:50: Martin: - Oh ,he went out.
18:50: westbaystars: - Yano drives the ball up the right field line, fair!
18:50: westbaystars: - It goes into the corner, and when the ball comes back in, Yano is standing on second base.
18:51: froobly: - sweet
18:51: westbaystars: - Fujimoto, batting .118 so far, fouls off Wada's first pitch to him.
18:51: westbaystars: - Hanshin is swinging early againi.
18:51: basebill: - 2-out lightening
18:51: westbaystars: - [Argh. Need to trim my nails.]
18:52: niibu_yaa: -
18:52: niibu_yaa: - yoshi
18:52: westbaystars: - The next pitch is lined over Kawasaki's head at third.
18:52: westbaystars: - But he jumps and makes the grab.
18:52: westbaystars: - Three out.
18:52: westbaystars: - Yano's double goes for naught.
18:52: froobly: - awwwww
18:53: westbaystars: - ---
18:53: westbaystars: - Bottom of Second: HT 0 - 2 FDH
18:53: westbaystars: - ---
18:54: westbaystars: - Zuleta, batting a whopping .417 with a home run so far this Series, leads off Daiei's half of the second.
18:55: westbaystars: - But he does down swinging big for the first out.
18:55: westbaystars: - Shibahara, 2 for 4 last night, .333 for the Series, grounds a high bounder to short.
18:56: westbaystars: - But not high enough for Fujimoto to throw him out in time.
18:56: westbaystars: - Two out.
18:56: westbaystars: - Torigoe fakes bunt for strike two.
18:57: Goemon: - This is almost like shonen-yakyuu. Aim for the high bounce in infield.
18:58: westbaystars: - I wonder if Daiei practices that - hitting the ball just in front of the plate to get a high bounce.
18:58: basebill: - turf-play
18:58: westbaystars: - After three straight balls, Torigoe fouls a couple of pitches off.
18:59: westbaystars: - Moore's nineth pitch to Torigoe is grounded weakly to the left side.
18:59: westbaystars: - Moore fields the ball, fires to first, and the side is retired in order.
18:59: westbaystars: - Moore has settled down for the most part.
19:00: westbaystars: - At the end of two complete, Daiei still leads 2-0.
19:00: westbaystars: - ---
19:00: westbaystars: - Top of Third: HT 0 - 2 FDH
19:00: westbaystars: - ---
19:02: westbaystars: - Sekimoto, playing third this evening, lines out to left for the first out.
19:03: westbaystars: - Imaoka follows with a safety bunt to the left side.
19:03: Goemon: - Seems to me like they are hitting the ball hard??
19:03: westbaystars: - No throw.
19:03: westbaystars: - Daiei's hitting it hard into the turf.
19:03: westbaystars: - Akahoshi stands in.
19:05: westbaystars: - And he swings and misses a ball around his shins.
19:05: westbaystars: - Strike three.
19:05: westbaystars: - Two outs, runner at first.
19:05: Ken D.: - greetings from NY...what's the score?
19:05: westbaystars: - Kanemoto takes strike one.
19:06: niibu_yaa: - 0 -2 Daiei!!!
19:06: westbaystars: - HT 0 - 2 FDH
19:06: Ken D.: - very good
19:07: westbaystars: - Count to Kanemoto evens at 2-2 as he didn't go for the low-outside pitch.
19:08: westbaystars: - The next pitch is lifted high, but to third.
19:08: westbaystars: - Kawasaki camps under the ball.
19:08: niibu_yaa: - yee haw
19:08: westbaystars: - And makes the catch for out number three.
19:08: westbaystars: - Hanshin had another base runner, but still has nothing to show for it.
19:09: westbaystars: - ---
19:09: westbaystars: - Bottom of Third: HT 0 - 2 FDH
19:09: westbaystars: - ---
19:10: westbaystars: - Lead off batter Murmatsu will start the Daiei third.
19:10: westbaystars: - And he takes two straight strikes.
19:10: niibu_yaa: - who singled his first at bat.
19:10: westbaystars: - And he watches strike three go by.
19:11: westbaystars: - San kyuu, sanshin.
19:11: westbaystars: - Kawasaki fakes a drag bunt on the first pitch for a ball.
19:11: CFiJ: - Hi guys. Was just clicking around the Web (at 4 am) and realized Game 7 was on. So I thought I'd join you.
19:12: westbaystars: - He hits a line drive to left.
19:12: Ken D.: - welcome
19:12: westbaystars: - Kanemoto tries a shoestring catch, but it goes by him.
19:12: westbaystars: - And on to the fense.
19:12: westbaystars: - Kawasaki rounds third. Then holds.
19:12: niibu_yaa: - ALright second time he's seen base in as many @ bats.
19:13: westbaystars: - Iguchi steps up.
19:13: basebill: - was that scored a triple
19:13: westbaystars: - Going, going, going.
19:13: niibu_yaa: -
19:13: niibu_yaa: - haitta!!!!
19:13: westbaystars: - Haittaaaaaaaaa!
19:14: CFiJ: - Forgive me for playing catch up, but who's pitching tonight?
19:14: westbaystars: - Two run home run.
19:14: westbaystars: - Moore for Hanshin.
19:14: westbaystars: - Wada for Daiei.
19:14: basebill: - moore for hanshin
19:14: westbaystars: - Daiei now up 4-0.
19:14: CFiJ: - Or perhaps I should say, who *was* pitching for Hanshin...
19:14: basebill: - no moore
19:14: westbaystars: -
19:14: niibu_yaa: - 阪 was Moore? ダ Wada
19:15: sagamiwara: - hi
19:15: westbaystars: - Matsunaka lines the ball to Imaoka at second.
19:15: westbaystars: - Two outs.
19:15: niibu_yaa: - Iguchi has come through big the last few.
19:16: basebill: - Daiei is looking to make more history
19:16: westbaystars: - Johjima comes up, batting below the Mendoza line for the first time this Series.
19:16: sagamiwara: - oh
19:16: westbaystars: - Ookii!
19:16: niibu_yaa: - Struck out his last at bat.
19:17: westbaystars: - Haita.
19:17: westbaystars: - He takes Moore to the Hanshin oendan in left.
19:17: niibu_yaa: -
19:17: westbaystars: - That makes up for his team low batting average.
19:17: basebill: - where's Hoshino?
19:17: westbaystars: - Daiei now goes up 5-0.
19:18: westbaystars: - Making his peace with the world?
19:18: niibu_yaa: - yup and brings Johjima closer to passing mr. mendoza.
19:18: sagamiwara: - should change moore
19:18: niibu_yaa: - Nah keep moore in there.
19:19: westbaystars: - Hoshino is pacing at the back of the dugout. Not a peaceful look on his face any more.
19:20: CFiJ (again): - Hmmm...had a little hiccup there when I tried to write in Japanese.
19:20: westbaystars: - Moore strikes out Valdez with the count full to retire the side.
19:20: westbaystars: - I doubt if he'll be returning to the mound in the fourth.
19:20: basebill: - show-ogff
19:21: westbaystars: - ---
19:21: westbaystars: - Top of Fourth: HT 0 - 5 FDH
19:21: westbaystars: - ---
19:22: westbaystars: - Hiyama leads off for Hanshin.
19:22: sagamiwara: - daiei can use sugi in pen so 5 is enough
19:23: westbaystars: - And he lifts a high fly ball to right. Got too far under it.
19:23: dazza: - so how many hits has moore given up?
19:23: CFiJ: - Okay, got kicked out again. Obviously, this chat interface is not fond of kinput2...
19:23: westbaystars: - One out.
19:24: westbaystars: - Arias grounds the ball off the pitcher.
19:24: westbaystars: - By the time Torigoe fields the ball and throws wide of first, Arias is safe.
19:24: westbaystars: - One out base runner.
19:25: Martin: - Moore has given up 5 hits (2 HR)
19:25: CFiJ: - As I was saying, as a Cubs fan, I'm not expecting Hanshin to pull out a gyakuten-kachi.
19:25: niibu_yaa: - hehe.... Arias has a new nickname in the Daiei chat rooom. AHOAZU
19:25: westbaystars: - Did you have LANG=ja_JP.eucJP set before starting Mozilla?
19:25: CFiJ: - Fortune has not been kind to beleaguered franchises like the Cubs, Red Sox, and Hanshin Tigers...
19:26: westbaystars: - And before running kinput2?
19:27: sagamiwara: - hanshin beat lions many times ago
19:27: CFiJ: - Westbaystars - Yes, AFAIK. I'm running Linux in Japanese language mode.
19:27: niibu_yaa: - yeah martin...given up 5 runs....and struck out 5. Strange ne?
19:27: westbaystars: - Hamanaka works the count full, and lines the ball deep to right.
19:27: westbaystars: - But not deep enough.
19:27: CFiJ: - Let me try something, and I'll be right back...
19:27: westbaystars: - Shibahara has it at the wall.
19:28: westbaystars: - The throw back to first is just a little wide and late to double up Arias.
19:28: westbaystars: - Two down, runner on first.
19:29: niibu_yaa: - whoa whoa
19:29: westbaystars: - Yano flies out directly to Shibahara, and the side is retired.
19:29: niibu_yaa: - Shibahara got all three.
19:30: westbaystars: - ---
19:30: westbaystars: - Bottom of Fourth: HT 0 - 5 FDH
19:30: westbaystars: - ---

19:31: westbaystars: - The first batter he faces is Zuleta.
19:31: westbaystars: - And his first pitch is high. Almost gets away from Yano.
19:32: Ken D. TO westbaystars - Thank you. I can provide some bios in the offseason if you'd like.
19:32: dazza: - Jarred is not only a good pitcher he is a great guy
19:32: westbaystars: - I'd appriciate it, thanks.
19:32: dazza: - and he used to play for the Cleveland Indians (my favorite team in the US)
19:32: westbaystars: - Looks like Hanshin got a great bunch of suketto this year.
19:33: westbaystars: - Zuleta watches strike three go by on a 2-2 count. It was a good pitch. He has nothing to complain about.
19:33: westbaystars: - Shibahara grounds his first pitch to second. Two quick outs.
19:34: niibu_yaa: - second K for Zuleta.
19:34: westbaystars: - Wada comes out of the dugout and starts throwing the ball around in front of the dugout.

19:40: westbaystars: - Sekimoto up next.
19:41: westbaystars: - He goes deep to center.

19:42: westbaystars: - Sekimoto's solo home run puts Hanshin on the board at long last.
19:42: westbaystars: - And Imaoka follows by lining Wada's first pitch up the middle for a base hit.
19:43: westbaystars: - This is the first time this evening that Hanshin has been able to put two hits in a row together.
19:43: westbaystars: - Johjima goes out and has a talk with Wada.
19:43: westbaystars: - Wada exchanges the ball, shakes his head "yes," and is ready.
19:44: westbaystars: - Akahoshi is winging at the first pitch, it slices foul up the left side.
19:44: westbaystars: - Next pitch, fouled off the left side.
19:45: westbaystars: - Johjima set up outside, and Akahoshi takes ball one.
19:45: CFiJ: - Akahoshi is left-handed right? Is he late on the pitches?
19:45: westbaystars: - Right, he's left.
19:46: westbaystars: - He's late on that one, and punches the ball through the left side.
19:46: niibu_yaa: -
19:46: westbaystars: - Base hit.
19:46: westbaystars: - Runners at first and second, one out.
19:46: Goemon: - O.K. Now they got a hold of Wada. (hopefully)
19:47: westbaystars: - Kanemoto at the plate.
19:47: westbaystars: - You know he'll be wanting to make this game close.
19:47: niibu_yaa: - yup and that should make him an easy out.
19:47: niibu_yaa: - *should*
19:48: westbaystars: - He lifts a fly deep to center.
19:48: westbaystars: - But right at Murmatsu, who sets up to get a running start on the catch.
19:48: westbaystars: - Bad shoulders or not, Muramatsu fires the ball in and holds the runner at second.
19:49: westbaystars: - Runners at first and second, two outs.
19:49: westbaystars: - Hiyama at the plate.
19:49: westbaystars: - And he's fishing at a low-outside pitch for strike one.
19:49: westbaystars: - Takes strike two.
19:50: niibu_yaa: - sounds like wada's slider is back.
19:50: westbaystars: - Johjima sets up way outside.
19:50: CFiJ: - Re Akahoshi: Figures, I've been watching too much MLB. He was slicing it because he was trying to go the other way...
19:50: westbaystars: - Hiyama, protecting the plate, just fouls it off.
19:51: westbaystars: - Johjima stands up behind the plate, and Hiyama takes the ball high.
19:51: westbaystars: - Akahoshi always is choked way up on the bat, as though he want to punch the ball where ever the ball comes in.
19:52: westbaystars: - Fujimoto does, too.
19:52: westbaystars: - A couple more foul balls. Hiyama is racking up Wada's pitch count.
19:52: westbaystars: - Takes strike three!
19:52: niibu_yaa: - YES!!!!
19:53: westbaystars: - He didn't agree with the call, but it looked pretty good.
19:53: westbaystars: - Hoshino-kantoku looks like he want's to exchange a few words with the umpire as well.
19:53: westbaystars: - Inside corner, maybe a little on the low side.
19:53: niibu_yaa: - gotta give Wada some love , being a rookie, and keeping his cool and getting out of a bad inning.
19:54: westbaystars: - Nonetheless, Hanshin got their first run on the board on Sekimoto's solo home run.
19:54: westbaystars: - ---
19:54: westbaystars: - Bottom of Fifth: HT 1 - 5 FDH
19:54: westbaystars: - ---
19:55: CFiJ: - How's Hanshin's bullpen?
19:55: westbaystars: - Top of Daiei's order in Murmatsu.
19:55: westbaystars: - He lines the first pitch to right-center.
19:55: westbaystars: - Hiyama runs over and takes the ball in running out and toward center.
19:55: westbaystars: - One out.
19:55: niibu_yaa: - hanshin's bullpen is fair. They have a few choices for relife.
19:55: CFiJ: - Not very good, apparently.
19:56: westbaystars: - Well, they've got everyone available. This is the last game.
19:56: westbaystars: - They've been pretty effective in all but Game 2.
19:56: westbaystars: - Kawasaki lays down a beautiful safety bunt.
19:56: sagamiwara: - Kawasaki is big deal with hawks they got speed
19:57: sagamiwara: - power+speed
19:57: westbaystars: - Even with the third baseman playing in, Kawasaki is head sliding safely into first long before Sekimoto's throw.
19:58: westbaystars: - Iguchi, who homered with Kawasaki on in the third, grounds back to the pitcher.
19:58: westbaystars: - The ball is in and out of Riggan's glove.
19:58: westbaystars: - He can no longer turn two. Has to settle for getting Iguchi at first.
19:58: westbaystars: - One down, runner at second.
19:59: westbaystars: - Matsunaka, who started the scoring with a two-run double in the first comes up.
19:59: niibu_yaa: - hehe
19:59: westbaystars: - And takes the first pitch in the dirt. The ball gets away from Yano.
19:59: westbaystars: - And Kawasaki moves over to third.
19:59: westbaystars: - Wild pitch.
20:00: westbaystars: - Sorry, two out, runner at third. Not one out.
20:01: westbaystars: - And he goes down swinging at a ball around his ancles.
20:01: basebill: - gotta go, thank you, Westbay-san
20:01: niibu_yaa: - no two out rally this inning.
20:01: westbaystars: - That retires the side.
20:01: westbaystars: - Nope. No two out rally *this time*.
20:02: westbaystars: - ---
20:02: westbaystars: - Top of Sixth: HT 1 - 5 FDH
20:02: westbaystars: - ---
20:03: niibu_yaa: - Think ダイエー stays with Wada?
20:03: niibu_yaa: - I would hope so, good way to play the "mental" game.
20:04: westbaystars: - Looks like he's still in there.
20:04: westbaystars: - 75 pitches, 3 Ks, 7 hits, 0 walks.
20:04: niibu_yaa: - Sweet.
20:05: westbaystars: - Arias swings at the first pitch of the inning, lining out directly at Valdez in left.
20:05: westbaystars: - Hamanaka, 1 for 10 in the Series, comes up.
20:05: niibu_yaa: - gotta love 1 pitch outs.
20:06: westbaystars: - Going into the game, Hanshin was batting .194, Daiei .285.
20:06: niibu_yaa: - Hamanake is 0 - 2 today.
20:06: westbaystars: - Yes.
20:06: niibu_yaa: - make that 0 -3
20:06: westbaystars: - He lifts that up to right. The ball hangs up there long enough to turn that into an 0 for 3 effort.
20:07: westbaystars: - Yano comes up.
20:07: westbaystars: - He slaps Wada's second pitch to right-center.
20:07: westbaystars: - Shibahara made a scooping catch on the run toward center to retire the side.
20:07: westbaystars: - wada putch Hanshin down in order, in less than 10 pitches.
20:08: niibu_yaa: - 柴原!!!!!
20:08: westbaystars: - Hanshin goes down in order yet again.
20:08: westbaystars: - ---
20:08: westbaystars: - Bottom of Sixth: HT 1 - 5 FDH
20:08: westbaystars: - ---
20:10: niibu_yaa: - think that's 5 out's fielded by Shibahara.
20:10: westbaystars: - Johjima has risen his average up to .222 after starting the day at .200, the lowest of Daiei's starters.
20:10: westbaystars: - And he does it again!
20:10: niibu_yaa: -
20:10: westbaystars: - Kanemoto looks up, and the ball sails into the Hanshin fans yet again.
20:10: westbaystars: - Two consecutive at bats.
20:11: westbaystars: - Daiei goes up 6-1.
20:12: CFiJ: - Daiei's got one hell of a mean offense there. They've really pounded the ball all series.
20:12: westbaystars: - That prompts a pitching change for Hanshin.
20:12: westbaystars: - Yoshino comes in.
20:12: niibu_yaa: - Williams?
20:12: niibu_yaa: - make it an all gaijin affair?
20:14: niibu_yaa: - ALthough I think they said Yoshida.
20:14: westbaystars: - Both teams have 7 hits so far this game. Daiei's been out-hitting Hanshin in all the others, so far as I recall.
20:14: westbaystars: - Uniform says "Yoshino" on the back. Just got a shot of it.
20:15: westbaystars: - Valdez steps in and lift's Yoshino's first pitch behind the second base bag.
20:15: westbaystars: - Fujimoto runs over, camps, and pulls the ball in.
20:15: westbaystars: - One out.
20:15: westbaystars: - Zuleta comes up.
20:15: westbaystars: - With a wave going through Fukuoka Dome.
20:16: niibu_yaa: - thanks...these ears are not working of mine.
20:16: westbaystars: - This is the first wave of the Nippon Series.
20:16: westbaystars: - But it died at Hanshin's section.
20:17: niibu_yaa: - hey the wave was supposedly invented in Detroit!!!!! Go Motor City!!!
20:17: westbaystars: - Count goes full to Zuleta.
20:18: westbaystars: - The next pitch is hit to the right side of the pitcher's mound, off the handle of the bat.
20:18: westbaystars: - Imaoka fields it and throws Zuleta out.
20:18: westbaystars: - Two down.
20:18: westbaystars: - Shibahara at the plate.
20:21: westbaystars: - Shibahara lifts the ball toward shallow center field.
20:21: westbaystars: - But the speedy Akahoshi is able to run it down before it hits.
20:21: westbaystars: - Three outs.
20:21: westbaystars: - But not before Johjima added an insurance run to lift Daiei up to 6-1.
20:21: westbaystars: - ---
20:21: westbaystars: - Top of Seventh: HT 1 - 6 FDH
20:21: westbaystars: - ---
20:22: westbaystars: - Hanshin fans let their jetto fuusen loose, and it's time for their "Lucky Seven."
20:23: westbaystars: - Yagi comes in to pinch hit.
20:23: westbaystars: - He lifts Wada's second pitch to left.
20:23: westbaystars: - Valdez moves in a few steps, and takes the ball in. One out.
20:23: niibu_yaa: - so yagi came in for Fujimoto?
20:24: westbaystars: - Yes.
20:24: westbaystars: - Since Sekimoto is up next.
20:25: westbaystars: - Sekimoto lines the ball off the handle of the bat to Torigoe at short.
20:26: westbaystars: - Two down.
20:26: westbaystars: - Back to the top of the order in 3 for 3 Imaoka.
20:26: niibu_yaa: - Yoshi
20:26: westbaystars: - Imaoka grounds the ball to Kawasaki at third, and is thrown out for the first time this game.
20:27: westbaystars: - Hanshin is retired in order again. Not so lucky seven tonight.
20:27: westbaystars: - ---
20:27: westbaystars: - Bottom of Seventh: HT 1 - 6 FDH
20:27: westbaystars: - ---
20:27: niibu_yaa: - so glad I'm able to hear the Fukuoka Live Broadcast tonight.
20:27: westbaystars: - Daiei fans have their white jetto fuusen ready as the Daiei Hawks' fight song plays.
20:28: westbaystars: - Heard this song over and over shopping at Daiei the past few weekends.
20:28: froobly: - Meanwhile I'm playing Rokkko Oroshi on my computer...
20:28: niibu_yaa: - Hehe......I hate Daiei Supa.
20:28: westbaystars: - Should have a good sale tomorrow. Or am I speaking too soon?
20:29: niibu_yaa: - But I did get a stylish Hello Kitty Hawks Mug there.
20:29: niibu_yaa: - yeah 89 -en sale.
20:30: westbaystars: - Daiei is nice because of the wide isles and wheelchair accessability.
20:30: westbaystars: - Torogoe leads off with a double up the first base line.
20:30: niibu_yaa: - Yeah...but for us kids that lived in Okinawa, we had our own supa.... San A (EI)
20:31: westbaystars: - ... Other su-pa- in the area are hard to manuvor.
20:31: sagamiwara: - jusco is better supa
20:31: westbaystars: - Muramatsu squares to bunt. Lays the ball down in front of the plate.
20:31: niibu_yaa: - yeah..the worst are those ones with the Dove on the sign.
20:31: westbaystars: - Yano throws to third.
20:31: westbaystars: - The touch is in time! Out at third.
20:32: westbaystars: - Muramatsu becomes the runner, one base back, with an out.
20:32: niibu_yaa: - Yeah Jusco is very convient. But I liked supporting local store when I was in Japan.
20:32: westbaystars: - Hanshin's Sato-pitching coach heads to the mound.
20:33: westbaystars: - After one of the coaches gets off the phone, Hoshino ends his stall and comes out of the dugout.
20:34: westbaystars: - Williams comes out to pitch.
20:34: westbaystars: - Dove = Itoyokado. We have a new one nearby, also very accessible. But farther away than Daiei.
20:35: niibu_yaa: - Yeah. that's what they are called....can never remember that name.
20:35: westbaystars: - Daiei (in our area) has a better selection.
20:36: westbaystars: - It may be a matter of where you're at.
20:36: sagamiwara: - I use seiyu and jusco
20:36: westbaystars: - Kawasaki up to bat. He's reached base on two bunts so far this game.
20:36: niibu_yaa: - I think the last Daiei moved out of Okinawa in 2002.
20:37: westbaystars: - He squares, but Williams throws to first.
20:37: sagamiwara: - seiyu use lions song when lions win chanmp
20:37: westbaystars: - Lays down a bunt up the first base line.
20:37: westbaystars: - Williams fields it, and throws Kawasaki out.
20:37: westbaystars: - No head sliding this time.
20:38: westbaystars: - With the second out, Wada is up throwing in front of the first base dugout again.
20:38: westbaystars: - Iguchi takes the first pitch and Muramatsu steals third.
20:38: westbaystars: - The pitch was a strike.
20:39: westbaystars: - Willams paid Muramatsu no mind at second.
20:40: westbaystars: - Full count to Iguchi.
20:41: westbaystars: - Tsumataaa.
20:41: westbaystars: - But Imaoka is able to jump and catch the blooper toward right as it comes down.
20:41: westbaystars: - Three out.
20:42: dazza: - Way to go WILLIAMS!!!
20:42: westbaystars: - Daiei threatened, but failed to score.
20:42: niibu_yaa: - あと 2 回.

20:44: westbaystars: - He pops the ball up high behind the first base bag.
20:44: niibu_yaa: - no luck for hanshin pinch hitters tonight.
20:44: westbaystars: - But Matsunaka has plenty of time to camp under it and take it in for the first out.
20:44: westbaystars: - Kanemoto comes up.
20:44: westbaystars: - Hanshin is in desparate need of base runners.
20:45: westbaystars: - He's handcuffed, and lifts the ball behind home plate.
20:45: westbaystars: - Johjima throws his mask off, camps under the ball, and Hanshin has four outs left.
20:46: westbaystars: - Hiyama comes to the plate.
20:46: westbaystars: - 0 for 3 so far this evening.
20:47: westbaystars: - 0 for 5 against Wada this Series.
20:48: westbaystars: - And he lines the ball right back to Wada to end the inning.
20:48: westbaystars: - The Tigers are down to their last three outs.
20:48: westbaystars: - Have they managed to score five runs in a game yet? Let alone an inning?
20:48: westbaystars: - ---
20:49: westbaystars: - Bottom of Eighth: HT 1 - 6 FDH
20:49: westbaystars: - ---
20:49: niibu_yaa: - Makes those wada cards I got off the Yakyu shop worth more tonight.
20:49: westbaystars: - That's one way of looking at it.
20:49: niibu_yaa: - I think Daiei Scored 5 in an inning this series.
20:49: westbaystars: - Something tells me that not many Hanshin fans here made such an investment.
20:50: niibu_yaa: - hehe...I got lucky 6 Wada cards in one Pack.
20:50: westbaystars: - Game 2, bottom of the 7th, 5 runs on 5 hits.

20:52: westbaystars: - It is the bottom of the 8th now.
20:52: westbaystars: - Full count on Matsunaka... is fouled away.
20:53: westbaystars: - For someone with bad legs, he sure has had his share of doubles this Series.
20:54: westbaystars: - Third base umpires says he swung at ball four. One out.
20:54: Martin: - Is he going ounder the knife after the series?
20:54: westbaystars: - Johjima, with home runs in his last two at bats, comes up.
20:54: westbaystars: - Most likely. He really doesn't look like he should be out there. But he's giving it his all.
20:55: westbaystars: - The camera pans to Johjima's wife and son in the stands.
20:55: Martin: - I hope he will be healthy next season.
20:56: westbaystars: - I'm kind of worried for Nakamura, that he might be over doing it.
20:57: westbaystars: - As Johjima swings through strike three. Back to back strike outs.
20:57: westbaystars: - Valdez comes up. He's struck out twice so far this evening.
20:58: westbaystars: - With two outs, Wada is up throwing in front of the first base dugout again.
20:58: westbaystars: - Looks like he's going all the way.
20:58: dazza: - Williams should have started the game
20:58: westbaystars: - 0 for 3 so far this evening has dropped Valdez' Series average to .333.
20:58: niibu_yaa: - Why not he's earned it. Keep him out there.
20:59: westbaystars: - And he strikes out to retire the side.
20:59: westbaystars: - Williams gets all three batters on strikes this inning.
20:59: dazza: - Valdez and Zuleta have destroyed the Tigers this series

Man the Hawks were strong, throughout the Series. Even in the three games at Koshien, Kanemoto, Yoshino, and Williams kept the Tigers in it. But otherwise the Hawks had our number right from the start.

Well done to the Hawks. Nice try to the Tigers.

Well, I wouldn't entirely agree. Remember, Game 1 was very close, and could've gone either way. That 13-0 thrashing in Game 2 was not good, but with a tied series going into the Koshien games, the Tigers would have clinched the championship on Friday night.

And on Sunday, Hoshino thought about going with Fukuhara as the starter instead of Irabu. He didn't, and as it happens, Irabu got shelled, and Fukuhara gave up just one run in five innings of relief. So that one could have gone either way, too, with the right starter choice. Besides, if the Tigers had gotten ahead in that game, then Yoshino, Williams et al could very well have closed the Hawks down as they did at Koshien.

Maybe the Hawks should feel themselves lucky that they had the home park advantage.

Perhaps they should feel lucky. But Scoreboard Scoreboard Scoreboard. That's the only comment that matters.

Exactly. It's the scoreboard that counts. And that's why the Hawks should feel lucky. The Tigers won three of the seven games, sweeping the Hawks at Koshien. Imagine what might have happened if a fourth game at Koshien had been scheduled.

Don't get me wrong - the Hawks were worthy winners, but the Tigers came very, very close.

I agree. I think the Tigers would have won if they had four games at Koshien. But if I had to choose a winner other than the Tigers, I'd definitely go with the Hawks, because of their fans. The Hawks' fans are just as devoted as anyone else, and it's nice to see them rewarded. This was truly the fans' Nippon Series.

Hanshin'll get 'em next year!
