Watanabe Proposes Elimination of Japan Series
The July 10, 2004 Japan Times [Link] reports on Yomiuri Giants' owner Tsuneo Watanabe's plan to replace the Japan Series if the merger of the Central and Pacific League occurs.

Watanabe proposes that the regular season be shortened to enable a geographically grouped "Emperor's Cup" Tournament. The winner of this tournament would play the winner of the regular season for the Japan Championship.

My proposal is to have a Tournament at Honolulu's Aloha Stadium where: the Nippon Series champion play against the winner between the KBO (Korea) and CPBL (Taiwan) for the Asian championship. Asian champ to play the MLB champ.
About

This is a site about Pro Yakyu (Japanese Baseball), not about who the next player to go over to MLB is. It's a community of Pro Yakyu fans who have come together to share their knowledge and opinions with the world. It's a place to follow teams and individuals playing baseball in Japan (and Asia), and to learn about Japanese (and Asian) culture through baseball.

It is my sincere hope that once you learn a bit about what we're about here that you will join the community of contributors.
