Ichiba to Close?

Discussion in the Open Talk forum
Ichiba to Close?
The Daily Yomiuri said that Ichiba pitched 3 innings for a save Thursday night against Chunichi. Ichiba pitched a scoreless 3 innings, giving up only 2 hits, walking 2, and striking out 4. [News] [Box Score]

So, what I wondering is, is Rakuten planning on making Ichiba a closer, given his good performance Thursday, and given the hardships of Rakuten pitchers to amass saves?

He got his very first save, albeit in an unusal format, yesterday. He pitched the last three innings of the blowout win(!) for Rakuten against Chunichi. We'll see how he handles close end of game situations.

NPB teams have a habit of putting failing starters into closing roles mid-season. But then again MLB over-values closers, so I can't say which is better.
