Foreign Salaries?

Discussion in the Open Talk forum
Foreign Salaries?
Does anybody know where I can find the how much all the foreign players make in the league? I was curious how well spent these teams' money is spent.

You can look under the Teams link here and look under the corresponding team and find the corresponding player.

[From Admin: Actually, I need to restore that salaries to the player profile pages. Will do later today.]

I apologize because this topic has already been discussed before. What are the minimum salary and the top salaries in the NPB?

The highest salary is BayStars' closer Kazuhiro Sasaki with 6.5-oku yen. I don't know the lowest salary in the NPB. [See also this thread.]

A quick query to the database for the minimum salary for 2005 shows:
+-----------+--------+--------+
| RegName | TeamID | Salary |
+-----------+--------+--------+
| Sekiya | FDH | 440 |
| Ishibashi | HC | 440 |
| A. Tamura | HC | 440 |
| Linares | CD | 440 |
| Ohtsuka | YS | 440 |
+-----------+--------+--------+
All salaries are listed in units of 1-man (10,000) yen.

How about Min/Max/Average by country for the time being?

| NULL | 700 | 30000 | 6803.1250 | 32 |
| Australia | 12600 | 12600 | 12600.0000 | 1 |
| Brazil | 450 | 3800 | 1171.6667 | 6 |
| Canada | 5000 | 5000 | 5000.0000 | 1 |
| Columbia | 28080 | 28080 | 28080.0000 | 1 |
| Dominican Republic | 3090 | 52000 | 16065.0000 | 6 |
| Japan | 440 | 65000 | 3588.2774 | 721 |
| Korea | 20000 | 20000 | 20000.0000 | 1 |
| Mexico | 12600 | 12600 | 12600.0000 | 1 |
| Panama | 3000 | 10000 | 7000.0000 | 3 |
| Puerto Rico | 5000 | 7500 | 6250.0000 | 2 |
| Taiwan | 900 | 4000 | 2066.6667 | 3 |
| United States of America | 440 | 54000 | 11125.4412 | 34 |
| Venezuela | 3150 | 40000 | 21575.0000 | 2 |
+--------------------------+-------+-------+------------+-------+
All figures are in units of 1-man (10,000) yen.

If you want to query the database yourself for more detailed salary information, you're welcome to download the entire database here. The relavent tables for the above query were Salaries, Nationalities, and Countries. If you want names, you'll want to use either Players (first and last names) or PlayerInfo (registered names by year).

Please note, all salaries for 2005 are based on the beginning of the season. Some players had not yet signed, and there have been a number additional foreign players since then. I need to look into why there are 32 players without countries, but that will have to wait for when I have more time.
Hope this helps.

I'm not sure whether you want feedback about this information you've listed, because you did mention that the information may not be complete.

But, just looking through it, I'm pretty sure your numbers for Venezuela are wrong or incomplete. Alex Ramirez of the Yakult Swallows and Alex Cabrera of the Seibu Lions are both Venezuelens, and there's no way that either is earning that minimum of 3,150-man.

This is exactly the kind of feedback I'm looking for. By getting feedback like this, I can fine tune the database.

Anyway, the two Venezuelans I have are:
+-----------------+--------+
| Name | Salary |
+-----------------+--------+
| Alex Cabrera | 40000 |
| Darwin Cubillan | 3150 |
+-----------------+--------+
The two Ramirez' are missing.

Looking at the 2005 Players by Nationality page, I see that Alex Jr. was born in the U.S. Should he be considered Venezuelan, like Petagine? I've updated Alex Sr. to be from Venezuela. So, the updated Venezuelan salary table looks like this:
+-----------------+--------+
| Name | Salary |
+-----------------+--------+
| Alex Ramirez | 30000 |
| Alex Cabrera | 40000 |
| Darwin Cubillan | 3150 |
+-----------------+--------+
And the updated salaries by nationality table looks like this:
+--------------------------+-------+-------+------------+-------+
| CountryName | Min | Max | Avg | Count |
+--------------------------+-------+-------+------------+-------+
| NULL | 700 | 30000 | 6054.8387 | 31 |
| Venezuela | 3150 | 40000 | 24383.3333 | 3 |
+--------------------------+-------+-------+------------+-------+
Thanks for catching these.
