Mariners' Outfield Options

Mariners' Outfield Options
The Mariners need power, that is pretty obvious. I think it is likely that we could see an increase in payroll to maybe 90 mil. With that, the Mariners could sign Hideki Matsui to fill left field, in place of Sierra. This might solve some of our problems in leaving runners on the bases.

Also, one of the reasons why we might not see Japanese players on the East Coast is because of the long trips home. So Yankees, BoSox, and Mets are a long shot for some of the Japanese elite. What do you think?

Being a Mariner fan myself, I would love to see Hideki Matsui in left field. Somehow I think it is a long shot he'll play for the Mariners, though. I don't think the east coast travel distance is a factor in whether or not a player from Japan would choose the west coast over the east coast. But in terms of demographics, the west coast is home to more Asians than the east coast is, so there might be a marketing factor involved in the decision.
