Zuleta Charges Mound

Discussion in the Open Talk forum
Zuleta Charges Mound
Has anyone ever considered the reasoning behind Zuleta's actions might be his well being and his career? What if a ball hits him the right way and his injuries end his career? Has anyone of you ever been hit by a 90mph baseball in the gut, limb, or eye? Think about it! I would go to great extremes to protect my career, health and well being for that matter!

First off, is this really the right forum for this?

- Has anyone ever considered the reasoning behind Zuleta's actions might be his well being and his career? What if a ball hits him the right way and his injuries end his career? Though, is punching and charging a pitcher going to change anything? Zuleta should have taken his base and been done with it. How is Zuleta protecting his career by charging the mound? I fail to see how it would help him. Instead, it brings more scrutiny to Zuleta from the media, league, team, and fans as a selfish, unsportsman like player. Saying all that, is it really worth it to charge the mound again?

It just isn't worth it to charge the mound and punch someone, regardless of the circumstances. It won't change anything.

Read some of the other postings. Looks like Zuleta has been hit 3 times this year by the same team. Coincidence maybe - but the season just started less than a month ago! For every action there is a reaction, and changes do come about by someone taking the first step. I do not know what the fines are, but I'm sure Zuleta is paying not only by being suspended a few games out of what 130?

It appears Zuleta has been hit many times and just took his base. He appears to have great sportsmanship in other games! You have to look at the entire picture, not just one incident! Once you are burned do you continue to go back to the fire? Every man should protect himself!

Yeah, great sportsmanship to be kicked out of more games than anyone else in the country. I have a picture of him smashing a Seibu Lions catcher (Noda?) in the face with his fist in an obvious sucker punch. He looks like a really great person there. I say go ahead and ban him from Japanese baseball. We have a word for people like that in Japan and it's "kuzu," and this kuzu doesn't learn.

Looks like you need to look at more pictures, or at least the one preceding to get the real picture! Give these NPB players more credit. We are not talking about little boys playing a game of ball on the playground.

So, in effect, you are in favor of players bringing the game into disrepute? No player is "protecting his career" by charging mounds and getting himself suspended. Pretty soon, players are going to take exceptions at every pitch that is remotely inside.

Unless a player likes getting into brawls and ruining his own reputation, charging the mound should be their very last resort.
