Cans at Jingu Stadium?

Discussion in the Open Talk forum
Cans at Jingu Stadium?
I just had a question about bringing cans into Jingu Stadium. The police officer asked me to put it in a cup, but I had 3 cans with me so I put two in my bag and gave one to one of the guys to fill in a cup and throw away. I was just wondering if I wasn't supposed to have the cans in the stadium or if I'm supposed to carry like 3 cups at the same time or something. If anyone knows the rules for this, please reply. Thanks.

Cans can be thrown at players by rowdy fans. They are banned from all stadiums for this reason.

Maybe it depends on the seats. I know people who walked right into the gates and handed the ticket to the usher while drinking a tall can of beer. These were infield seats though.

In Koshien, two staff members walk around the stands before the game. One carries a big sign saying "no bottles or cans" and the other has a garbage bag for anything they find.

Also, late in the game at Osaka Dome, when the Tigers were winning by only a couple of runs, a security person walked around with a big sign saying not to throw anything on the field.

I was at a game at Jingu Kyujyo where the Tigers blew a lead in the 9th inning and everyone threw anything they could find onto the field. This was back in 2001, though. I haven't seen a similar incident since.

If you hide any cans at the bottom of your bag then you can always get them in. It's a sure-fire way to save money rather then paying over the odds for beer inside the stadium. Most of the people I sit with do this too and we have never been aproached about the cans while inside the stadium.

A recent photo in the Daily Sports (after the Tiger's 2-0 loss to the Giants, 2nd July) showed thrown bats littering the field after the game. I have seen a Tigers fan throw bats at Yokohama Stadium last year (he was rightly arrested and hauled away). Maybe they're just keeping cans from Tigers fans as other teams fans probably behave themselves.

Anyway, who wants to smuggle beer into the stadium when Jingu makes the most delicious Lemon Sours you could imagine?

Lemon Sours? I haven't been to Jingu but am curious as to what those drinks are. A description would be kindly appreciated.

Lemon Sours are made from shochu (a clear alcohol), soda, lemon, and ice. They come in tall glasses and are very refreshing. You can also get grapefruit, lime, and melon sours, as well as other flavors (I think Jingu only does Lemon and Grapefruit though).

Sounds great! Actually, Jingu is the only ballpark I haven't been to in the Kanto area. One of those must really hit the spot in summer! I live in Kansai but when I get to Jingu one day I'll be sure to try one. Thanks!

Wow they arrested a guy!? A lot of Marines fans (myself included) had beer cans thrown at us at the Nippon Series last year. As far as the bats are concerned, they littered the field after every game.

The real problem lies with inept security. If you just ignore them, they do nothing. At Koshien, this is especially true. It took ten security officers to subdue two rowdy fans who wanted to start a fight with the whole oendan (do not make the mistake of believing that I am joking when I say the whole oendan). If they need to bring in actual police officers with actual authority (on occasion), then that is what they need to do. Get rid of the high school and college kids, and get some big guys who practice martial arts.

Kind of off topic but, Hanshin fans were trying to take on the whole visitor oendan, or the other way around?

Although Koshien seems subdued compared to in years past (although oen goods were thrown at the Hawks' pitcher who intentionally threw at Kanemoto last year), it is true that security needs to be taken more seriously. I highly doubt the guards I've seen at Koshien (yes, high school kids included) would have any idea what to do if a real problem ensued. What they are really good at, however, is rushing to move young children away when they try to get too close to the field (behind a net, no less) to take a picture or have a look. (Note sarcastic tone in the last sentence.)
