Hillman last week led the Nippon Ham Fighters to the Japan Series championship, their first title since 1962.The AP mentioned first that the name was indeed the Nippon Ham Fighters, it was most likely just a way for the AP to avoid being repetitive and to save space. They did mention the full name of the Fighters before referring to them.
This story was not subject to the approval of Major League Baseball or its clubs. Those AP articles that appear on MLB.com aren't changed by MLB. It's the same here, the original context of the article isn't changed on ESPN.com either.
This is a site about Pro Yakyu (Japanese Baseball), not about who the next player to go over to MLB is. It's a community of Pro Yakyu fans who have come together to share their knowledge and opinions with the world. It's a place to follow teams and individuals playing baseball in Japan (and Asia), and to learn about Japanese (and Asian) culture through baseball.
It is my sincere hope that once you learn a bit about what we're about here that you will join the community of contributors.
