Is Shane Spencer playing in 2007?
With spring training getting ready to start soon, I was just wondering if anyone has heard anything about Shane Spencer playing in 2007?

Spencer is not on Hanshin's roster for Spring training that I can tell. He didn't really have a great season last year. I don't think he caught on with another team in Japan.

I always liked him when he was with New York.

Shane Spencer had two years with Tigers but didn't do well enough to be retained. He was let go at the end of the 2006 season and presumably his lackluster figures persuaded other Japanese clubs to turn their attentions elsewhere.

I've also been wondering where Shane will be in '07. I'm sure he could get at least a spring training invite or minor league contract with a chance to make a big league club as a bench player. If anyone knows of Shane's whereabouts, please post.

Shane may end up in the Atlantic League playing for the Somerset Patriots or Newark Bears. They would love to have him, because of his Yankees and Mets name recognition factor.

However, I searched all the MLB transactions from this off season and Shane didn't show up anywhere, so far. I'm afraid his career is heading in the wrong direction.

By the way, Carlos Mirabal, who pitched for Nippon Ham for four years, was with Newark last year. Carlos is a New Jersey native.

Hi. I'm from Japan and a big fan of the Tigers. I liked him so much and always hoped that he could be with Tigers as long as he can play. So I'm terribly shocked and dying to know where he belongs in 2007!

He is not signed with anyone currently.

I saw Shane on a fishing show on the Outdoor Channel the other day. I guess he is officially retired and enjoying the good life. I'm surprised he did not at least get a spring training invite to a MLB club this year.

I'm sad to hear he's not playing this year.

Why should Spencer be playing? He was downright terrible last year, batting just .222/.261/.435 with 6 HRs and 17 RBI. There isn't anyone he can help anymore.
