Mark Quinn Tries Out with Giants

Mark Quinn Tries Out with Giants
I know this is old news, but I just saw last week's Nikkan Sun and it had an article about former Royals outfielder Mark Quinn trying out with the Yomiuri Giants. This guy is interesting, to say the least.

Here are some facts about Quinn:
  • In 2000, Kaz Sasaki, Terrence Long, and Mark Quinn finished 1-2-3 in Rookie of the Year balloting. Now they are all out of baseball.
  • Mark Quinn got hurt in spring training of 2003 when he was fooling around with his brother in his apartment practicing kung fu moves. He ended up with broken ribs.
  • Quinn was a teammate of Lance Berkman's at Rice University.
  • He was rumored to have been on performance enhancers when he was with the Royals.
  • He is still fondly remembered in KC - one website (royalsreview.com) has an annual Mark Quinn award for the player who shows a lot of promise at the start of his career only to flame out a short time later.

Yeah, it be interesting, but Quinn seemed to have a setback, suffering a left thumb injury [Japan Baseball Daily] and will miss the next 6 weeks. How this fares for Quinn is unknown.
