Triple Crown winners
I was wondering if there have been any Triple Crown winners in Japan in the last 50 years. Carl Yastrzemski was the last to do it in MLB. He did it in 1967.

I noticed that Alex Ramirez was within .007 percentage points in the batting title. That would have given him a triple crown in the Central League this year. As he tied for first in the HR race, won the RBI crown and finished second in the batting race. I was just wondering how common this was in the Japanese League.

There is a list of Triple Crown winners on this post, Ochiai Hiromitsu (new Chunichi manager starting next season) and Randy Bass both won the Triple Crown last in back to back seasons of 1995 and 1986 in the Pacific and Central Leagues respectively.

Here is the list again:
    1938 OL Nakajima Haruyasu (Kyojin)
    1965 PL Nomura Katsuya (Hawks)
    1973 CL Oh Sadaharu (YG)
    1974 CL Oh Sadaharu (YG)
    1982 PL Ochiai Hiromitsu (Lotte)
    1984 PL Boomer Wells (Hankyu)
    1985 PL Ochiai Hiromitsu (Lotte)
    1985 CL Randy Bass (HT)
    1986 PL Ochiai Hiromitsu (Lotte)
    1986 CL Randy Bass (HT)
As you can see, Ochiai is the only player to have won the Triple Crown three times. According to Whiting's "Wa," Ochiai predicted he would win it four times, and did three of them.
