Why Isn't Kazumi Saitoh Starting?

I see that Makoto Satoh threw out of the pen tonight [Nikkan Sports - in Japanese].

I haven't seen any notification of Saitoh being called back up to ichi-gun since he was dropped to ni-gun on April 26 for muscle fatigue. Did I miss his call up?

No, Saitoh hasn't been called up again, nor has he been pitching out of the Hawks' bullpen, nor has he even been pitching at ni-gun. I think he's still trying to work out his shoulder issues. (His latest diary entry was titled "Jinxed," but I haven't had a chance to really read through it. Seems to be about how he always runs into these tough shoulder pain seasons right after he has a really great one, just like he did in 2004.)

Wow, I had no idea he was hurt and hadn't been pitching. That's really too bad, after such a phenomenal year last year. I just read the diary "Jinx" entry, and it doesn't seem to talk too much about his current troubles, more about "sophomore slumps" in general and how, after his 20-win season in 2003, he only put up 10 wins and was back down to ni-gun for a while, and how Fujioka and Sugiuchi have had similar experiences.

While he didn't really mention any current physical woes, I guess it could be possible that his current frustrations are leading to this kind of introspection. Nice to see that he stays up beat at the end though, with the "mae ni susumou" attitude.

I'd love to hear more updates on his condition as people have them.
