Yabu in MLB

Discussion in the Open Talk forum
Yabu in MLB
SanSpo reports that Hanshin veteran Keiichi Yabu is on the verge of signing with the Oakland Athletics. He was reported today as denying a lot of rumours, but admitting that he and the Athletics were close to inking an agreement.

Would anyone like to speculate about his possible success (or otherwise) in California?

Also, while I knew that Yabu had tried hard to pick up as much English as possible over the years, and that he was one of the more communicative Japanese players with foreign suketto, apparently he's actually quite a bit better at English than that description lets us imagine. One interpreter said not only can Yabu communicate in a baseball setting, but he should have no problem in daily life, either. Wow, was anyone else on this forum aware of that? It'll be interesting to see his "unveiling" press conference in the U.S.

About

This is a site about Pro Yakyu (Japanese Baseball), not about who the next player to go over to MLB is. It's a community of Pro Yakyu fans who have come together to share their knowledge and opinions with the world. It's a place to follow teams and individuals playing baseball in Japan (and Asia), and to learn about Japanese (and Asian) culture through baseball.

It is my sincere hope that once you learn a bit about what we're about here that you will join the community of contributors.
