Can someone explain why Animal is so well known in Japan? Was he like the Bob Sapp of the 1980s in Japan? His stats don't look too amazing.

I'm not entirely sure, as I was 7 when he last played in Japan, but I think it wasn't necessarily his performance but his antics. He was rather like Jose Lima (the Royals this year, posting the MLB highest ever E.R.A. for a full year starting pitcher) - very fiery - and I suppose the Japanese saw it very intriguing, differing from the slightly more subdued attitudes of Japanese players in the late 1980s.

He's on that goofy TV show that just came to the States: "The Most Extreme Elimination Challenge."
