Is it simply that pitchers, generally speaking, are better than hitters in the Japanese pro league?

Nowadays, NPB is about as offense-oriented as MLB, and during the 1980s it was more offensively inclined. For a long time, though, runs/game have been much lower. I don't know if this was due to park effects, rule enforcement, climate, playing style or some other reason.

This is a site about Pro Yakyu (Japanese Baseball), not about who the next player to go over to MLB is. It's a community of Pro Yakyu fans who have come together to share their knowledge and opinions with the world. It's a place to follow teams and individuals playing baseball in Japan (and Asia), and to learn about Japanese (and Asian) culture through baseball.

Compared to MLB career stats, the batting averages were down with only 15 players (minimum 4,000 ABs) hitting .300 or over, with ERA (minimum 2,000 IP) being low, too, with 16 being under 2.50.
Am I missing something or is Japanese baseball much more pitcher dominant than MLB?
