Tanaka (IF, Fighters) is also nearing 2,000 Hits.
And of course, the Giants' Kiyohara is only 10 home runs shy of the "magic" 500 HR Club.
Kudoh (P, Giants) only needs 2 more wins to join the "Meikyukai" Golden Players Club.

Going into the season, these are the active players within 200 hits of 2,000:
1,982 Kiyohara Kazuhiro (Giants) + 20 = 2,002 (Meikyukai)
1,901 Tanaka Yukio (Nippon Ham) + 17 = 1,918
1,848 Nomura Kenjiro (Hiroshima) + 68 = 1,916
1,836 Furuta Atsuya (Yakult) + 109 = 1,945
* Additions all as of the end of play, August 7, 2004.
The only pitcher within 20 wins of 200 at the start of the season is the Giants' Kudoh Kimiyasu (191). He has won 8 so far and will be looking to join his team mate Kiyohara as the second Meikyukai inductee this season.

I know that Giants' infielder Kiyohara joined this club earlier this season, and Dragons' infielder Tatsunami joined in 2003. However, many other players are set to join within the next few seasons.
