Demand for English Speakers

Discussion in the Ask the Commish forum
Demand for English Speakers
I'm an American that had previously looked into teaching English in Japan. I found out that there is quite a demand for English Teachers. I was curious if such a demand exists in the Japanese baseball world as well. I would love to work and and be a part of a Pro Yakyu team, but was unsure if such positions exists. Any suggestions?

Steve Mattern

P.S. I speak little Japanese.

Hi Steve,

There is no question that each team needs to have an interpreter for the communication between gaikokujin and a manager & players, but they all are Japanese who speak English.

This is nothing else but my observation, but the players might be interested in learning "baseball English" considering the trend where many players are exploring the opportunities in the MLB in the future and/or for direct communications with gaijin on their teams. I know there is a lot of "technical terms" in the baseball world which are hard to consult a dictionary to find out the right translations. The question is how?
