What are the names of the bases in Japanese and do they mean the same in English as in the U.S.?

  • First base: 一塁 (ichi rui) ichi means "one" and rui mean "base."
  • Second base: 二塁 (ni rui) ni mean "two."
  • Third base: 三塁 (san rui) san means "three."
  • Home plate: 本塁 (hon rui) hon has many meanings depending on context. In this case, it is kind of like the source or root of the bases, i.e. home base.
