Guyner?

Discussion in the Ask the Commish forum
Guyner?
This fella, Terumasa Matsuo, played in the Shikoku Indy league. His team name was the Kagawa Olive Guyners. He is pitching in Asheville, NC tonight and I was wondering if anyone knew what a "Guyner" is.

Apparently a combination of the local dialect "gaina" meaning "strong" and the English word "guy."

Sweet. I offered up an Asheville Tourists T-Shirt to the person who knew what it was.

The Kagawa Olive Guyners play in the Shikoku Island League, and their mascot/logo is very similar to the Green Giant! It's a shrewdly marketed team by their CEO, and they draw really well. I was just there a few weeks ago, and they had over 4,000 in the stands!

A "Guyner" is considered to be a strong, hard working giant. Check out their website!
