Bunting?

Discussion in the Ask the Commish forum
Bunting?
It really amazes me that so many players in the NPB can't bunt. I watch games everyday. These guys stick their bat out and bunt the ball right back to the pitcher time after time. Tonight 2 suicide squeezes were bunted right back to the pitcher, who flip it to the catcher for the out. Can't these guys turn their bats a few degrees and make the pitcher run to the left side or right side?

Same could be said about MLB players in general - unable to bunt!

With the emphasis on bunting in NPB, I'm sometimes surprised that the quality of bunting isn't higher here. It would be hard to find, but I'd love to see stats comparing NPB and MLB with regards to sacrifice bunt success rates. I would imagine it's higher here, but maybe not by much. There would obviously be a lot more data in NPB, as MLB teams tend to only bunt late in the game, but a majority of teams here seem to bunt even in the first inning.

I agree with you. I mean the NPB, MLB, KBO and the CPBL. All major league level baseball.
