Baseball Haiku

Baseball Haiku
Here's a unique and thoroughly stunning new volume which I picked up today while passing through O'Hare airport in Chicago. It's called "Baseball Haiku: The Best Haiku Ever Written About the Game," edited by Cor van den Heuvel and Nanae Tamura. It's published by W.W. Norton and is priced at US$ 19.95.

I am just plowing through this now. There are numerous haiku in both English and Japanese, with excellent notes about the writers and the poems. As an appendix there is a brief summary of the history and bibliography of Japanese baseball.

What an unusual and imaginative tribute to the game we all love. Every Hanshin Tiger fan will want to memorize this:

About

This is a site about Pro Yakyu (Japanese Baseball), not about who the next player to go over to MLB is. It's a community of Pro Yakyu fans who have come together to share their knowledge and opinions with the world. It's a place to follow teams and individuals playing baseball in Japan (and Asia), and to learn about Japanese (and Asian) culture through baseball.

It is my sincere hope that once you learn a bit about what we're about here that you will join the community of contributors.
