People, it seems, will bend their ethics like one of Hideki Okajima's curveballs if they think it will lead to sporting success.

Whether it's individuals risking their health and future by taking performance enhancing drugs or American politicians promising to subsidize billionaire sports owners with taxpayers' money or Japanese high schools excusing baseball players from tuition, the lesson is clear: the lure of sporting glory is seductive.
