Kuwata is legendary in Japan
Masumi Kuwata was an impressionable 20-year-old Japanese kid in 1988 and Bill Gullickson was a man of the world.

Gullickson, frustrated by getting caught in the major-league owners' collusion against free agents in the late 1980s, skipped the country and was pitching for legendary Tokyo Yomiuri Giants in Japan's Central League. Kuwata was in his third season with the Giants, on his way to becoming one of the best-known pitchers in Japanese history.
