Q: Dear Glad: As a lifelong baseball fan, I'd always been under the impression that Hideo Nomo was the first Japanese-born player in the Major Leagues. I read recently that he was not. Who was the first? -- Tony Capitos, Lakewood

A: Dear Tony: Masanori Murakami made his pitching debut for the San Francisco Giants in September 1964, more than 20 years before Nomo's major-league appearance.
