オリックスのテリーコリンズ監督（５７）は、トム・デイビー投手（３３）を２７日のホーム開幕戦で先発させることを明かした。「日本ハム戦のカードの頭になる」と明言。昨年３勝１７敗と大敗した苦手との大事な一戦を、昨年１０勝のチームの勝ち頭に託す考えを示した。デイビーはオープン戦初先発のこの日、日本ハム戦で５回６安打３失点。「今日はあまりよくなかった」と反省しながら「今年はいいチームになったし、日本ハムさんには覚悟しておいて欲しい」と意気込んでいた。
