広島・前田智が通算２０００安打まで、あと５とした。四回、新井のソロで１点差に迫り、なお一死一塁。能見の高めの速球をとらえ、右中間へ同点の二塁打を放った。「勢いのある中で打たせてもらった。直球にいい反応をして打つことができた」と前田智。ほかの４打席は結果的に凡退となったが、振りは鋭く、強い打球が飛んでいた。
