落合中日が気迫で巨人との首位攻防第１ラウンドを制し、優勝マジック７が点灯した。初回に２点を先制すると、４回に２点。さらに５回には主砲ウッズがヘッドスライディングで盗塁に成功し、貴重な得点につなげた。７回には井端がヘッドスライディングで適時内野安打にするなど、２点奪って勝負を決めた。ヒットエンドラン、盗塁、継投策と落合監督の采配もピタリ。球団初の連覇へ、早ければ３０日にも落合監督の体が宙を舞う。
