巨人の守護神上原浩治投手（３２）がＭＶＰ級の働きで投手陣を引っ張った。原監督から抑え転向の打診を受け、先発のこだわりを胸にしまい込んで優勝に貢献した。サヨナラ勝ちで出番はなかったが、その感激はひとしおだった。また先発内海哲也投手（２５）は５回４失点ＫＯされたが、木佐貫洋投手（２７）－野間口貴彦投手（２４）のスクランブルリレーでしのいで打線の援護を待った。
