広島佐々岡真司投手（４０）が６日の横浜戦（広島）で、１８年間の現役生活に幕を下ろした。１０－０の９回２死から登板。村田に真剣勝負を挑んでソロを浴びたが次の鈴木尚を３球三振。最後は宣言していた通りの「直球」だった。史上２人目の先発１００勝＆１００セーブの記録を持ち、９１年にはＭＶＰ＆沢村賞でリーグＶに導いた右腕はナインの手で５度宙に舞った。セレモニーでは「丈夫な体に生んでくれた母に感謝。ずっと支えてくれた優子、昇吾、美歩に感謝…」と家族の名前を挙げ、声を詰まらせた。この時期では異例の３万観衆。全員に配布された「想う」などと書かれた赤いプラカードで球場は赤く染まった。長男が始球式を務めるなど最高の花道となった。今後は解説者として新たな道を歩む。
