非情の交代でオレ竜が頂点に立った。中日が日本ハムに１－０で勝って４連勝を飾り、５３年ぶりの日本一に輝いた。１－０で迎えた９回、パーフェクトで抑えていた先発山井から守護神岩瀬にスイッチし、初の日本シリーズ完全試合で逃げ切った。０４、０６年と２度日本シリーズに敗れた落合監督は、個人記録よりも勝利に徹する采配で悲願を達成した。リーグ優勝を逃したチームの日本シリーズ制覇は史上初になる。
