Player Identification Question

Player Identification Question
I was looking at the stats for the 1988 San Jose team in the California League, which had a few Japanese players. According to the 1989 Sporting News Guide, one of these was a switch-hitting outfielder named Tadayuki Hanyuda, who tore up the league (.367 with lots of walks). The name didn't ring a bell and I can't find anyone by that name in NPB history. Gary Garland's site does list a Tadakatsu Hanyuda, a switch-hitting outfielder who appeared in NPB in 1987 and '89-'95.

I assume this is the same guy - are Tadayuki and Tadakatsu somewhat interchangeable (like John and Jack)? Was it a matter of incorrect translation (and if so, which is correct?)? Or are these different players?

According to the "Pro Yakyu Name Dictionary 2001," Hanyuda changed his first name from Tadayuki (忠之 to Tadakatsu (忠克 in 1989. [Player Profile]
