CPBL: Shibakusa to Try Out for Bulls

CPBL: Shibakusa to Try Out for Bulls
Softbank's 37 year old right hander, Hiroshi Shibakusa, will be heading to a tryout for Taiwan's Sinon Bulls on January 15. The testing period is scheduled for one week with the the prospect of a formal contract within this month.

Shibakusa was released by the Fighters after the 2005 season and joined Softbank after a tryout. However, he didn't appear in a single game at ichi-gun for the Hawks this past season and was given his release. After having surgery on his right elbow during last season, he attended the 12 team joint tryout last November, but nobody would take him. Still, Shibakusa won't give up.

While there have been offers from the Danish (Holland?) league, talks have been ongoing since last year with contacts at the Sinon Bulls. "I may be able to win a spot in the starting rotation, which would be very exciting for me. Then I want to come back to Tokyo Dome for the Asia Series."

I hope he has a successful tryout. Japanese teams have been importing Asian talent for decades, but not many Japanese players have played abroad in Asia. More fluidity in Japanese player movement should be better for the health of Japanese baseball (less players retiring before their time is up).
