Format Change for 2008

Discussion in the CPBL News forum
Format Change for 2008
In light of the first half champions Makoto Cobras tumbling to last place in the second half with a playoff berth secured, the CPBL has decided to do away with the first/second half format.

Instead there will be a fight to the very end of the 100 game schedule as the top three teams will qualify for the playoffs.

Having the first half champions qualify for the post season provided them with no incentive for the second half, and it hurt the quality of play.

Yeah, I've never understood the first/second half format either myself. This should help to make the CPBL more competitive throughout the whole season, as teams just can't get lazy and still breeze into the playoffs. Now just if CPBL would fix some of the gambling problems plaguing it.

It hasn't been confirmed just yet. It's the CPBL. I remember last season when the Cobras changed their name to the Dragons - they had jerseys all done up yet reverted back to the Cobras moniker.
