Lions sign P Luther Hackman
The Lions have signed 33 year old right handed pitcher Luther Hackman. He was 1-2 with 18 saves and a 3.61 ERA in 41 appearances last season with the Nashville Sounds and then finished with the Oklahoma RedHawks (both of the Triple-A Pacific Coast League), going 0-1 with a 2.25 ERA in four games.

Hackman played in the major leagues from 1999-2003 with Colorado, St. Louis, and San Diego, compiling a 9-10 record with 1 save and a 5.09 ERA in nine starts and 140 relief appearances.

In October 2007, Hackman was given a 50 game suspension for violating the Minor League Drug Prevention and Treatment Program by testing positive for a performance-enhancing substance.

I didn't really care for Hackman as a pitcher in MLB, but I loved his name - it always reminded me of the movie "Superman." Lex Luthor was played by Gene Hackman in the movie.
