Bears release Chang Chih-chia

Discussion in the CPBL News forum
Bears release Chang Chih-chia
The La New Bears have released star pitcher Chang Chih-chia because of links to match-fixing. Chang, who spent time in Japan with the Seibu Lions, is one of a slew of players whose contracts have been terminated due to suspicions of match-fixing.

Meanwhile the Brother Elephants have brought star pitcher Tsao Chin-hui back into the fold. He has continuously denied links to organized criminals.

I have no idea what the attendance figures will be like for the CPBL in 2010. They still have some big names like Tsao, Lin Chih-sheng, Chang Tai-shan, Hsieh Chia-hsian (who was also suspected of being involved in match-fixing) and Chen Chin-feng.

However, with so many players being chopped, there's ample opportunity for up and coming youngsters. With the league adopting free agency salaries will continue to rise and that should hopefully deter players from accepting money in exchange for throwing games.
About

This is a site about Pro Yakyu (Japanese Baseball), not about who the next player to go over to MLB is. It's a community of Pro Yakyu fans who have come together to share their knowledge and opinions with the world. It's a place to follow teams and individuals playing baseball in Japan (and Asia), and to learn about Japanese (and Asian) culture through baseball.

It is my sincere hope that once you learn a bit about what we're about here that you will join the community of contributors.
