Elephants sign P Mike Ballard

Elephants sign P Mike Ballard
The Brother Elephants have bolstered their starting rotation by signing 28 year old left handed pitcher Mike Ballard. Last season with the Harrisburg Senators (Double A Eastern League) he went 1-5 with a 4.31 ERA in 12 games.

The Elephants are also believed to be in the hunt for a Japanese pitcher and are hoping to keep Brad Thomas (3-0, 23 saves, 0.75 ERA in 41 games) who joined the club in the middle of the 2012 season.

Jim Magrane (11-12, 4.01 ERA in 29 games) and Robert Livingston (1-2, 3.25 ERA in 6 games) were both released at the end of the year.

Brad Thomas was outstanding in his role as a closer last year and his performance allowed the Elephants fans to overcome the exit of Ryan Cullen who was sacked shortly after he abruptly walked out of a match against Sinon Bulls (citing shoulder injury).

There are talks that Thomas would double-up as the pitching coach for the "Yellow-Troopers," although it's still yet to be announced officially by the team.
