Good to see they're really trying to make the entire team younger. Looks like the CPBL is taking a step up for the next season.

The Sinon Bulls have signed 26 year old right handed pitcher Alfredo Gonzalez. Last season with the Las Vegas 51s of the Triple-A Pacific Coast League Gonzalez was 2-2 with a 4.91 ERA in 46 games. Thus he was a teammate of Chen Chin-feng.
The Bulls also inked 30 year old righty Clint Weibl who spent 2005 with the Nashville Sounds (AAA). He was 2-5 with a 5.19 ERA in 39 games.
The Bulls also announced that they will retain 34 year old right hander Jorge Cortez who was 3-1-0 with 2 saves and a 2.96 ERA in 11 games for the team last year.
31 year old Osvaldo Martinez's run in the CPBL appears to be over. The league's all-time strikeout king, with 1,286 Ks, is not returning to the Bulls. In 2005 Martinez was 12-7-0 with 7 saves and a 3.72 ERA in 41 games.
Meanwhile, the President Lions have signed 29 year old right handers Edwin Castro and Arismendy Carmona. Both played with the Guangdong Leopards of the China Baseball League in 2004. In 2003 both players were part of the Hiroshima Toyo Carp's baseball academy.
The Leos resigned Jose Espinal who was 3-3-0 with a 3.09 ERA in 8 games last season.

The La New Bears have signed 25 year old right hander Gustavo Martinez to a contract. In 2004 with the Tacoma Rainiers of the Triple-A Pacific Coast League, Martinez was 6-7 with a 4.89 ERA in 18 games.
Meanwhile, one time Major League prospect Kevin Huang Jun-chun will be back in Taiwan as part of the Bears' practice squad.
The 2006 CPBL regular season will begin on March 18. Exhibition play begins on March 6. The All Star game will take place on July 22. The regular season wraps up on October 1 with the playoffs going from October 13-18 and the Taiwan Series starting on the 21st.

Todd Betts, who played for Japan's Yakult Swallows in 2003, signed with LA NEW Bears, according to Baseball Magazine.

Todd Betts hit .269 with 15 home runs and 67 RBIs in 116 games with the Somerset Patriots of the independent Atlantic League in 2005.
As for the Chinatrust Whales, they are currently auditioning pitchers Rafael Garcia, Carlos Belliard, Steve Smyth, and outfielder Harry Berrios. 35 year old Berrios hit .394 with 9 home runs and 72 RBIs in 94 games with the Winnipeg Goldeyes of the independent Northern League last season. Berrios and pitcher closer Dario Veras will mostly like stick with the team. Veras returns after posting a 7-6-0 mark with 24 saves and a 2.24 ERA in 53 games last year.
The Brother Elephants are looking at 34 year old reliever Blas Cedeno.

I had a chance to see Ugeoto play yesterday. He made some great backhand grabs.

28 year old Pena was 5-3 with a 3.50 ERA in 18 games for the Worcester Tornadoes of the independent Can-Am League. Rodaway spent 2005 with the Lincoln Saltdogs of the independent Northern League where he posted a 8-7 mark with a 3.55 ERA in 21 games. The 27 year old left hander played winter ball with the Mexicali Aguilas.
Yofu should last the entire season unless he's awful. Japanese players tend to be given at least a year, much like the Elephants did with Junichiro Mutoh this past season. Mutoh was 6-10-0 with a 3.51 ERA in 24 games.
