May MVP's
NPB announced the winners for both leagues for the May MVP awards on June 3rd. The Pacific League May MPV's were Toshiya Sugiuchi of the Softbank Hawks for pitching, and Yoshihito Ishii of the Seibu Lions for batting. Sugiuchi won the award for the 2nd straight month, and 3rd time in his career by going 4-1 with a complete game shutout, and posting a 1.67 ERA. Sugiuchi is just the 7th person in the Pacific League to win the award in 2 consecutive months, the last person to do it was Hisashi Iwakuma of the Kintetsu Buffaloes last year in April and May. Ishii won his first ever award by batting .395 for the month, and boasting the league's highest on-base percentage by collecting 34 hits and 14 bases on balls for the month of May.

In the Central League, Hiroki Kuroda of the Hiroshima Carp picked up the pitching award, while Tomoaki Kanemoto of the Hanshin Tigers took the batting MVP award. Kuroda went 4-1, with 3 of those games complete games, posting a 2.14 ERA, for his 2nd career monthly MVP award, his first in 4 years. Kanemoto collected 38 hits for the month to reach a .440 average for May, along with 8 home runs and 29 RBI, for his 2nd career monthly award as well, his first in 9 years.

This is a site about Pro Yakyu (Japanese Baseball), not about who the next player to go over to MLB is. It's a community of Pro Yakyu fans who have come together to share their knowledge and opinions with the world. It's a place to follow teams and individuals playing baseball in Japan (and Asia), and to learn about Japanese (and Asian) culture through baseball.

It is my sincere hope that once you learn a bit about what we're about here that you will join the community of contributors.
