Rayborn started today (Sun 17th July) at Koshien against the Tigers. He pitched 7 innings (102 pitches), giving up 5 hits, one four ball and no runs. Impressive figures given the way the Tigers are playing at the moment. He was substituted at the beginning of the eigth by Nagakawa. As I type, the game has gone into extra innings, and Higashide has just hit a home run off Andoh at the top of the 10th - could be a rare Carp victory!
Did anyone see Rayborn pitch? Any thoughts?

Had a few control problems at the start but settled down. Didnt see anything that stood out, no real heat or location, he had the most success with his breaking ball.

The Tigers looked flat and lacked spark although an off night is forgiveable given their offensive output recently. They really should have been more patient and laid off some of his pitches given his control problems at the start and made Rayborn work a little harder.

Rayborn did reasonably well for a first game but was lucky to come away with a win. His opponent Andoh was unlucky to take the loss. I think Rayborn will get better.

Nakawgawa who relieved Rayborn in the 8th actually got the win.

Yes, I noticed my mistake after I posted.

I was very impressed with Rayborn's stuff. Looked like he had them pretty well off-balance. And he showed some 150's.

How long has it been since he pitched? A month and a half?

I was impressed too - it certainly wasn't luck. But the real test will be the second time he faces the Tigers. I suspect they'll jump all over him the next time round.

Now with Rayborn in the rotation, how does that affect the other Americans on the Carp? They now have 5, and all have done well. Bale with sub 2 ERA, Davey with a sub 3 ERA, and Romano with just over a 4 ERA, but has pitchedd really well except for his last start. 3 spots for 4 guys. How will this work?

The foreign limit is 4. Bale has been the Carp's closer this year. I see no change at all except if Romano collapses.

Remember the foreign limit applies to the players named in the lineup and NOT on the roster.

Teams are only only allowed four foreign players on their ichi-gun roster at a time. They can, however, carry more than four and have them deactivated. Also, all four can't be pitchers, or all four can't be position players. A max of 3 pitchers or positon players is alotted. Only three are allowed on the field at the same time.

So, how will this work with the Carp with Rayborn, Davey, Romano, Bale and LaRocca?
