this evening (7/20) at Yokohama Stadium. With nobody out and bases
loaded, Hiroshima brought the infield in. Tamura swings, and...... the ball is a low liner going up the middle. It looks like
a sure hit! But, Hiroshima shortstop, playing up and close to the
bag snags the ball just centimeters above the ground! He flips the
ball to second to force Komada, then, with Nakane sliding back into first,
the relay gets him! Triple play!
In the game, with Yokohama's 1996 #1 draft pick Hosomi making his first
1-gun appearance, the BayStars are currently (going to the top of
the 4th) leading 5-0.
[Update: Hosomi got his first 1-gun win as the BayStars went for a combination shut out of the deep diving Carp 11-0, despite Hiroshima's turning a triple play. (It seems that the Carp are starting their dive early this year. Usually they wait until after the All Star break.) Hosomi's emotions took him over during the hero interview, and he was having a hard time answering questions through his tears. He did manage to say that it was like being in a dream, standing there on the pedestool. Kinjoh had the same emotional problems on the pedestool the night before.]
