2002-3 Masters League Schedule Set
Nikkan Sports reported that in the Monday (Sept. 2nd) kantoku meeting the 2002-3 Masters League season schedule has been set. The five team OB ("Old Boys" - old timers) league will open on November 6th and end on January 26th, playing total of 40 games. Please refer to the schedule below.

Of note, Sapporo (2 and 9, 1 tie last winter), has recruited Warren Cromartie (Giants), Yukata Takagi (Yokohama), and Shigeru Takada (Giants) in hopes of getting some run support.

Is there a web site for the Masters League that shows the rosters?

Yes, there is. It's the same site that I linked to above with the info on Cromartie.

It's only in Japanese, but the site is called www.89master.com. Why 89? Eight is pronounced "ya" and nine is pronounced "kyu" resulting in "yakyu" masters. They do that sort of thing with numbers a lot here.

Nonetheless, here are the team pages you're looking for.

Hope this helps.

The info on Cromartie says that he played with the Athletics after he played with Yomiuri, but it's incorrect. Cro played for the KC Royals in 1991 after 7 seasons with the Giants.

I don't know about you guys, but I'm really not all that interested in seeing a bunch of ancient former players go through the motions. If this league really wants to spice things up and draw fans, then forget guys like Bass and Cromartie and bring on "The Animal!" If they could entice Brad "Animal" Lesley to come back to Japan to play in the Masters League, I'm there.

Brad "Animal" Lesley has his own web site. www.animalsan.com
About

This is a site about Pro Yakyu (Japanese Baseball), not about who the next player to go over to MLB is. It's a community of Pro Yakyu fans who have come together to share their knowledge and opinions with the world. It's a place to follow teams and individuals playing baseball in Japan (and Asia), and to learn about Japanese (and Asian) culture through baseball.

It is my sincere hope that once you learn a bit about what we're about here that you will join the community of contributors.
