Mets wave Komiyama
The Mets declined a $1 million option on Komiyama, signed as a free agent last December. He was 0-3 with a 5.61 ERA in 25 games with New York and 3-1 with a 1.42 ERA in 17 games with Triple-A Norfolk of the International League.

As expected, this story was in the newspapers today. The Daily Yomiuri reported that Komiyama would "pursue opportunities in Japan." Yet just last week he was quoted as saying that he would retire rather than come back to Japan.
So which is it? Is he gonna play in Japan again, or take his ball and storm off in a tantrum, as it were?
Also, Komiyama was a starter in Japan, but used as a reliever in the States. If he were to come back to Japan and find a place with an NPB team, would they use him as a starter or a reliever. Would his age (he's 36, I believe) be a factor?

Releasing Komiyama was a good move by the Mets. Komiyama started the season with the Mets off great coming out of the bullpen and pitching long relief. He was injured shortly into the season and spent time on the disabled list and then coming back but not effective. His numbers were very good in AAA but not impressive in the NL. I think either going to Japan to pitch again or trying to latch on with another MLB team during spring training might be his best shot but then, age is against him and a not so good "rookie" season might make him think more of autograph/card shows and the like while enjoying his retirement. Any analyst/play-by-play jobs open?
