Long term Fukuoka fans will remember way back in the Heiwadai days that Motoki was originally drafted by the Daiei Hawks in 1990, but refused to sign proclaiming he would only sign with the Giants.

In an exhibition game in 1991 Motoki came to bat as a pinch hitter, and the Fukuoka fans let him have it. Interestingly enough, he did play for 3 Japan Series winners - whereas if he stayed with the Hawks, it would have been only 2.
