Sugiuchi Wins Sawamura Award
Softbank Hawks' pitcher Toshiya Sugiuchi won the 2005 Sawamura Award unanimously, Monday.

Sugiuchi went 18 and 4 with a 2.11 ERA in 26 games. He pitched in 196 and 2/3 innings, had 8 complete games, 2 shutouts, 218 strikeouts, and a .818 winning percentage. [Full Story - Japan Ball]

It was a very well-deserved accolade on Sugiuchi's part, as he was only eight strikeouts shy of having the pitchers' version of the Triple Crown. [2005 Pacific League Leaders - Borisov's Pro Yakyu]
